Our mission

FAQs

  • How does it work?

To find your perfect cake, simply type in your postcode and see what talented bakers are in your local area. Narrow down your searches using our filters and you’ll be connected to a range of bakers to choose from who can fulfil your request. The majority of cakes made by our bakers are bespoke and individual to each customer, so each baker has a gallery to browse rather than a set menu. When you see something that takes your fancy, simply contact the baker using our enquiry form so you can start discussing your ideal cake, get a quote and secure your order!

  • I’ve made an enquiry about a cake, when will I hear back?

Great! Thanks for reaching out to one of our bakers, they will be in touch as soon as they can! Our bakers are small business owners who are working hard to fulfil orders, so they may not see your enquiry straight away! Please see their average response time indicator on their profile, and to make things as easy and stress free as possible, please contact your baker within plenty of time to secure a bake for your event.

  • How much notice do I need to give when ordering my cake?

While some bakers may have last minute availability to whip up a cake for you at short notice, it is always a good idea to place your order well in advance to avoid any disappointment, especially if you are after a large and elaborate cake! Some of our bakers may require you to place your order weeks, or even months in advance!

  • Can I get my cake delivered?

Many of our bakers offer a delivery service in their local area (the exact distance bakers are able to deliver varies). Sometimes there may be an additional fee for this and this will be communicated to you by the baker. Not all of our bakers are able to offer delivery so please check before placing your order – in this case the cake will need to be collected from the baker’s location.

  • How do I pay for my cake?

Payment details vary between bakers. Once you have agreed on the size/flavour/style/design of your cake, your baker will give you a quote. Often a deposit is required upon ordering, and this must be paid in order to secure your cake for the specified date. Usually, the rest of the payment is due just before or upon delivery or collection of the cake. This may be through a bank transfer or cash payment and will be specified by the baker. If you have any questions about the payment, please contact the baker prior to making the order.

  • I’ve seen a cake I like elsewhere – can I send a photo to my baker so they can copy it?

Whilst imitation may be sincerest form of flattery, when it comes to cake, we ask you to please bear a few things in mind. Each baker has their own unique style and talent that they have developed and worked hard at over the years. While they can take aspects of the cake to help influence their design, it should not always be expected that the cake will be exactly the same. Additionally, the cake you have seen was created by another talented baker, who has also worked hard to develop their style and designs, so it is not considered good practice to directly copy another bakers work and designs. Like many things, certain cake designs go through phases and trends, and there are some popular and classic designs which you will see popping up in the repertoire of many of our bakers. However, when it comes to a very specific and unique design you have seen, please be mindful before asking one of our bakers to make a replica!

  • I’ve ordered a cake but now want to change or cancel my order, how can I do this?

Life is unpredictable, we know. Speak to your baker, and if you have given enough notice, they will most likely be able to accommodate your new requests or reschedule the order. However, if you want to cancel your order, your deposit may be non-refundable. Please bear in mind that last minute changes may not be possible, as the baker may have already started to prepare your order.

  • What checks and regulations are in place to ensure my cake is made to a high standard?

All our wonderful bakers have been through a selection process and number of checks in order to have a profile on our website. All bakers are fully insured, registered with their Local Authority, trained in Food Hygiene and carry a Food Standards rating of at least 3.

  • Can I leave feedback on the cake I received?

Our bakers welcome feedback on their cakes and it would be great if you could spare the time to drop them a line! At On The Cake Stand we would also love to hear what you think about our bakers and our website so we can help to make it even better! Please email hello@onthecakestand.co.uk as we would love to hear your thoughts!

  • What if I have a problem with the service or the cake?

Our bakers are thoroughly vetted before becoming part of the On The Cake Stand community, and we pride ourselves on being able to connect you to some of the most talented cake makers in the country, therefore we take all complaints very seriously. Although On The Cake Stand cannot accept responsibility for the cakes themselves, we would appreciate any feedback on your experience with finding a cake through On The Cake Stand and will do our very best to help you resolve the issue.

  • How will COVID-19 restrictions affect my cake order?

Our bakers comply with all UK Health and Hygiene laws under normal circumstances, and are ensuring they are COVID secure when delivering too. Speak to your baker about contactless collection and delivery, and if you have any concerns regarding COVID-19 precautions please speak to the baker before placing your order.
